Create A Newsletter That Gets Results

Create A Newsletter That People Will Read
Create A Newsletter That People Will Want To Read
When a business has a website with a customer list, the first logical thing to think is that you should create a newsletter. While this is a logical thought, it may do more harm than good. Let’s face it. Sometimes it’s hard to tell which is more painful - writing the newsletter - or reading it. So here are some suggestions to help lessen the urge to create a newsletter, but will still let you stay in touch with your customers and also be a good use of your time.

Create a Newsletter with One Point

Don’t waste anyone’s time with a bunch of random news bits and photos - because they will just delete it as soon as they open it. Make one point and then provide interesting details. For example, “Jane Smith gets promoted to VP”, “New Store Nearing Completion,” or “New Product Launch” are all good one page articles that will catch someone’s interest. If you don’t have news, don’t make it up. No one will miss a newsletter now and then if you have nothing to say.

Create a Newsletter with a Goal

If you are having a sale, send it in a newsletter with an email coupon code to see if people are getting it or even opening it. If you get no response, you may not need a newsletter, or you may need a different approach to a newsletter. Remember, a newsletter is a marketing tool just like anything else. If it isn’t working, fix it or move onto something more productive.

Make Sure That Your Newsletter is Readable

Send your newsletter to a few different people and make sure they can open it. As well, take the time to see what it looks like when it is opened in a few different browsers and also see if it downloads quickly. If it doesn’t open and download quickly, most people will just move on to the task of deleting it along with all of the other emails they don’t want.  Also remember that with images, there are many times that they will not be displayed. If images are crucial to your newsletter, you may want to rethink the design.

Finally, if you have an email list that you are mailing out to, make sure that there is an unsubscribe option and respect it. You won’t gain any friends by forcing them to delete your correspondence every time you send them an unwanted email. Remember, a newsletter can be a great tool to keep in touch with your customers or members, but shouldn’t be a chore to produce or read.
